Have your ever binge eat and binge watch in the middle of the night knowing that you have something due tomorrow? Have you ever wanting to do something but was always distracted by something else? I believe with all the distraction in today’s world, it is tough for people to maintain self discipline. The lack of self discipline would not only impact your daily life, but will also ruin your future.

When you are at work, your boss and managers will require you maintain discipline while you work, but when you are home alone, will you be able to focus on what you were suppose to do? It would be nearly impossible because no one is watching. But what if, what if there is an invisible virtual assistance that can control your action?

I believe that AIs should not be about robots working for you, they should be the one that’s helping you to become a better person. Not a slave, but a strict mentor. Imagine a world where everyone is equipped with an invisible mentor, they would be the best of themselves.

From the film “Upgrade”, the protagonist has an AI chip inside his brain, the AI can control his body and allow him to do things he normally couldn’t do. I wanted the same, maybe not as extreme. For example, if I set a goal of going to bed at 11pm and waking up at 5am everyday, normally, I wouldn’t be able to do it. But if there is an AI within my head that forces my body to stick to the goal, although it might be painful to me, but I know I will be able to stick with my goal. We can always set up other tasks such as “finish the assignment by tomorrow” or “walk my dog before I binge watch TV”. The point is, by allowing something else to control your body, we can control our desires. The procrastination problem would be eliminated, and we would be able to focus on our long term plans without worrying about the lack of motivation.

Of course, in order to make this happen, there is a long way to go. Other than the fact that it is super difficult to achieve, it is also very dangerous. At the end of the film, the protagonist was fully controlled by the AI, so he is no longer himself.

A few questions that came to my mind about this idea:

Is it possible for us to put technology inside our body?

Will this ever happen?

If this idea became possible, how do we prevent it from taking over our body?

No matter what, making this happen would require a great amount of skill. In my opinion, someone who is in the field of Bio mechanical engineering should have the skills to pull this off. As for now they are working on mechanical arms, but sooner or later they will be working on mechanical heads, brains, and other organs. Believe it or not, terminator might come true.
